In recent times, the state of our planet has drastically deteriorated. With environmental hazards such as water pollution, extreme climate changes and global warming increasing every year, it’s about time we take a stand and try to reverse the serious damage man has caused, before it’s too late. You can begin helping Mother Nature by curbing bad habits and focusing on the good such as:

1. Plant trees: Creating a green living, whether it is in the city or suburbs, is crucial. Trees are our only source of unadulterated oxygen. Greed and unhealthy industrialisation competition has led to deforestation in many countries. Fields of trees have been uprooted to build factories and power plants. The damage may be irreversible, but it’s not too late. Plant a tree today and stop earths ageing process.

2. Buy Locally Grown Products: When shopping, focus on purchasing locally grown products instead of imported goods. This will send a message to local dairies and farms. Trips to the market won’t be necessary if you plant a few vegetable and fruit trees in your very own backyard.

3. Reduce Use of Harmful Chemicals:  Many industries dispose their waste made of oil, paint, ammonia and various other chemical solutions openly which is hazardous to water and air as these chemicals are soaked into the groundwater. It’s no surprise that the human immune system is weakening with time. All of these industrial disposables should be safely disposed at a toxic waste site.

4. Composting: Remains of plants and kitchen waste make rich nutrient filled food and manure for plants, helping them grow faster. This process is known as composting.  Instead of dumping away your wet waste, you can now use it for the plants in your own home garden. This safe disposal of waste will reduce the waste that goes into the landfills, polluting and destroying our surroundings.

5. Conserve water: With industries dumping all their waste into water bodies, fresh , clean water is getting limited every year. Freely available water is often taken for granted. Running Taps, unchecked water leakages, over flowing water trucks are all examples of unnecessary water wastage that needs to be stopped. Water is an essential requirement of human survival, so let’s conserve it at the most. Try rainwater harvesting in buckets which can be used to water the plants in the lawn, clean your cars etc.

6. Change travel habits: When travelling, energy conservation is often looked over. Choose how you would like to consume fuel, either by road or by flight. When travelling to close places, walk it out or cycle instead. For long distance travelling, opt for rechargeable batteries. Excess usage of non reusable batteries is another human tendency of energy wastage.

7. Stop littering: Throwing plastic wrappers and tickets on railway tracks and roads while traveling is a common sight. Instead of purchasing disposal items like plastic plates, spoons and cups, opt for reusable, washable ones instead. For on-the-go coffee lovers, carry your thermal to the coffee shop. With this small, simple act, you reduce the amount of trash you’re disposing and your coffee remains hot while doing so.

Striking a balance between development and a healthy environment may take decades, even centuries. But together, we can save our planet from deteriorating any further. Bliss cleaning drives started by small organisations and other clean up acts organised by the government should be cooperated with to control and organise our waste and secure our future for generations to come.
